Privacy & data FAQ

Where is my AskAI.free data stored?

Short answer: Your account, chat history and saved prompts live on our servers (encrypted at rest). Free and anonymous chats, images and videos are automatically deleted after 24 hours; Pro and Max accounts keep theirs until deleted.

Two different storage paths depending on who you are:

  • Anonymous & free users: your chats, images and videos are stored in our database so you can keep using them, then automatically and permanently deleted after 24 hours.
  • Pro & Max users: chat history, images, videos, saved prompts and account data are stored in our managed MySQL database, encrypted at rest, behind authenticated API endpoints, and kept until you delete them.

Backups are encrypted and rotated weekly. Server logs that include request paths are kept for 30 days for debugging and abuse-prevention, then auto-deleted.

When you ask a question, the prompt also transits the relevant AI provider's API (OpenAI, Anthropic or Google) so the model can generate an answer. That traffic is encrypted with TLS in both directions and is governed by the providers' API data terms, which exclude using your content as training data. The providers may retain API inputs briefly (typically up to 30 days) for abuse monitoring, then delete them.

What this means practically: free and anonymous activity is wiped automatically after 24 hours, so if you want to keep a chat, image or video, upgrade to Pro or Max. You can delete individual chats or the whole account at any time, and signed-in users can view, download and delete everything from the File Manager.

Anonymous vs signed-in storage

The important distinction is whether the site can associate the conversation with an account. Anonymous usage is temporary and device-local, so it is convenient for testing but not reliable as long-term storage. Signed-in usage is server-side, which means you can return from another device and continue, but it also means the service has to store account-linked chat records.

If privacy is your priority, avoid pasting secrets you would not put into any cloud service. If continuity is your priority, sign in so your history, saved prompts and paid features follow you across browsers.
